Well you guys all know how to make a girl feel good, thank you for your kind comments everywhere concerning the loft makeover. I adore this room. We all do, but I always appreciate when you love it too. :)
As promised, I'm back with a full recap of all of the DIY projects. I'll list the items in the room and sources at the end. Enjoy!
I was so stinking excited to the start this redo, I was even happy about removing the baseboards before the hardwoods went in. I usually hate this job but it meant progress so I was happy to do it. That carpet was so gross! Our baseboards are SO difficult to remove but I've figured out an easy way to take them off the walls:
A little trick I use at the end makes all the difference.
The hardwoods were installed (so happy) and then I started removing all of the door trim in the room to replace it. I have slowly changed out all the doorways in our home to this craftsman/farmhouse trim:
I had help planking the tall wall in the room (I don't go that high) and shared some of my tips for this shiplap look:
I trimmed out the huge window seat (I am so thrilled to have another window seat in our house!), the window itself and then continued the wall treatment:
On of my favorite projects in the room was the gift wrap station on that wall -- it was so easy to create and super cheap!:
Then I finished the rest of the walls up in the room, slow but sure. It's not a difficult project but it is time consuming. I explained how I get that shiplap look for a lot less in this post:
It look so good with that door trim, right? Love it all! One thing I haven't finished up yet is painting all of the doors black like the rest of the house. I know it will be so stunning but I can wait a bit to tackle that!
Some of you asked about the half walls on the other sides of the room and I do plan on planking the short wall by the stairs. I'm still not sure I'll do the same with the longer wall where the couch will go. I'm not convinced it's necessary and worth it -- I'll decide in time.
I was able to move on to some of the smaller projects I was excited about. I knew all along I wanted a massive chalkboard above the desk and this is how I made it:
I have a big chalkboard wall in our kitchen and this one is even easier to write on and erase. Having the super smooth surface is awesome! I have been asked about making it magnetic -- I've done that in the past but it takes a ridiculous amount of coats to make it even slightly magnetic. I'm talking six coats at least. It's not something I've been thrilled with in the past so I didn't spend the extra time on it.
Another smaller project I had been waiting for months to do was the Disney art wall:
This is just a start but it makes me so happy!! I'll link to the how-to on the Disney pin art and printables below.
I didn't share how I made the bookcase at the end of the desk but here's a closer look at it:
I had a piece cut for the back and then used 1x12's for everything else. I covered my screw holes with simple trim that I use for a ton of my build projects.
The desk is one of my favorite parts of the room! I stained it in Dark Walnut by Minwax and put a few coats of polyurethane on top:
I figured out a super simple finishing trick on that project that I'll share with you soon!
The end result is such a pretty space that is easily one of the much functional rooms in our home:

Pillows: Pink - IKEA, blue and pink -- Target, the rest -- HomeGoods
Tray on desk -- Goodwill I've had forever
Hanging file and folders: Target
Hardware on cabinets: Home Depot
Lamp on desk: HomeGoods
Sconces: Joss and Main (they've raised the price on these since I bought them). I found these as an affordable option too.
Basket on bookcase: HomeGoods
Aqua jars on bookcase: Target dollar spot (these are similar but more)
Butcher block: A local lumber store called Northwest Lumber (IKEA is cheaper but I'm not sure they still carry the island size and it's a couple hours away from us). Lumber Liquidators is another good option but you will most likely have to order it (at least the island size).
