Showing off Rachel!

Hello my friends! I have a fantastic blogger to share with you this weekend! Rachel at Shades of Blue Interiors has a beautiful blog and home and I know you will love her! I've been planning to share her for some time and I'm excited today is the day. :)

Of course I have to start with her beautiful kitchen redo -- the best part about it is the changes weren't crazy expensive. She kept the same cabinets and painted them:

The new counters and backsplash made a big difference too. She also added the island which I LOVE.

Another favorite of mine is her entryway and the beautiful set up she has there:

Rachel shares how to make that hanging "mantel" here and isn't that pew beautiful? Love all of the textures too.

She offers plans and tips for building furniture as well. I have a couple favorites -- this desk is awesome:

I love that it has storage and the middle lifts up so it could be used as a vanity as well. So cool! What a lovely piece that serves double duty.

I love any furniture with an "x" so this console is another favorite:

It would be great for a foyer or as an entertainment center under a TV.

Rachel's DIY pallet wall in the family room is beautiful as well -- I love the texture and warmth it brings to the space:

I also LOVE that they were able to hide all of the TV and component cords behind it -- brilliant! You know how much I hate cords. :)

And finally, but certainly not least, her patio update has me all kinds of excited to update our deck this summer:

See! I told you -- so lovely. Rachel has fantastic taste and mad skills! Be sure to check her out this weekend and enjoy all of her projects.

Have a wonderful weekend! It's supposed to get into the 90's tomorrow, and it was about 72 three days ago. Indiana weather keeps things interesting! :)

How to install stacked stone tile on a fireplace wall

Hey all! I've been working my butt off (I wish literally) on this fireplace tile project in the basement! If you remember I last left you with the new mantel and hearth :  Those tiles were just leaned up against there so I started with that bottom part -- because it was the easiest. :)  I've been working on it on and off on this for the past couple of weeks and finally hit it hard again yesterday. I was so hoping to get it done but I ran out of steam. Today is the day! I'm determined!  This is the stone we're using, from Lowe's:  I've had to visit three different locations to find enough to use because some batches are more pinky toned than others. I prefer the more natural tones so I've had to mix and match boxes. The great thing about this stone is it looks fantastic no matter what!  This is the adhesive I used, from Home Depot:  This stuff is awesome and SO much easier than mixing thinset. You pay a little more but save in time and mess. It's nice th...

My favorite recent projects and posts!

Well hello! Hope you have a wonderful weekend planned! I'm back with another round up of posts from the past few months today. I used to do this monthly but I don't remember to do it most of the time -- so now you get them in batches of two or three months. ;) It's always nice to look back and what I've accomplished around here and it may show you something you've missed! I finished up our loft makeover at the end of the summer -- I shared how I made the giant chalkboard for this space: This is a room that's meant for the whole family so I wanted to make it a fun space. We created a Disney art wall that we'll add to over time. We are going back to Disney World soon and I can't wait to add new memories to this wall!: You can see how we made that Disney pin art in that post as well!  I showed you how I made the large desk with butcher block and how I finished it here :  I also shared my new favorite sanding technique in that post -- it is a SUPER cool tr...

Before and After, Twelve Years Later!

Alright my friends -- this is my favorite post of the year so be warned…there are a ton of photos. Twelve years ago tomorrow we closed on our home and I know I say it every year, but I cannot believe I've had the privilege of living in a home I love this much for so long. We moved a lot when I was young and times got pretty rough. It is truly a dream come true to have this house and to be settled for so long.  Before and after photos are my favorite ever so I just love this kind of post. It makes me giddy. I did the same thing last year  (check that post out for different views and to see how these spaces have changed since!) -- I love to see how our house changes over the years. Every year I "finish" a room and slow but sure our house has become exactly what we want and love.  Let's start the tour, shall we? Our living room has always stumped me because of super high ceilings. I used to decorate up and quickly decided it didn't work:  Don't you love the pink ...
