Hello my friends! I'm back today with some more details on the DIY desk I made in our new office/craft room upstairs. I got a bunch of questions about the butcher block so I figured this would be a good time to recap how to finish butcher and share how we've used it in our house. I'll number this info so it's easy to follow the steps of the process!  1. The question I get asked more than any other when it comes to this material…where to get it?  I've purchased at two places. IKEA is the easiest and honestly the best quality I've found. I just don't always purchase from there because it's a four hour round trip. :) (Next year we'll have one here in Indy, yay!!) Thirteen years ago at nearly this exact time of year we were starting the process of buying a house. We had been in an apartment for four years and I had lived either in dorms or apartments for seven years before that. The idea of owning a home had always been a dream of mine and I was so thrilled that we were going to make it happen.  The funny thing is, we knew immediately we wanted to build a house. We just knew we wanted something brand new, even though I do love an old house. There was something so exciting about picking out each and every detail and personalizing it to how we wanted. It's that time of year again folks! There are some ideas I share again and again and free printables are one of them. First, because the options are endless! Each season new art is created by incredibly talented bloggers. Also, they are FREE, or at least super cheap. You use your printer or send them off to be printed for a few bucks. AND they are an easy way add some seasonal touches to you home without a lot of effort. Hey hey! I've been putting the new craft room to use and I LURVE it! I'm so excited about this new workspace, it is truly a dream come true.  Of course I had to break it in with some fall crafts and I found most of what I needed at the Target dollar spot. You know, that place where you grab a few things and $30 later you have a cart of cute, cheap stuff? Yeah:  I found the wood stickers and stencils (the two stencils came together) there a couple weeks ago. These projects were so easy (and cheap!). Even with drying time they took less than an hour.  I grabbed some scrap wood and stained one piece in an ebony stain and painted one white. Then I used the leaf stencil and spray painted that in this gold spray paint :   When that dried I placed the other stencil on top:  Here's a tip -- spray the back of your stencil with a light coating of spray adhesive and then place it on the surface. Hello there! How is your week going so far? I'm looking forward to things slowing down just a bit around here -- and I've started my fall decorating, which I'm kind of excited about. I am determined to do a fall tour of our house this year! I was so excited to see this new spray paint, I knew I had to try it. And when I did, I knew I had to share the results with you! The chalk paint craze is still going fairly strong, don't you think? I don't see it going anywhere soon. I've used it before and will link to some of those posts at the bottom, but for now, I wanted to share this spray paint chalk paint:  I got it a few weeks back and was excited to try it but wanted to wait for the right project. I ended up using the paint on a Goodwill tray I've had forever.
